The second book by Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl, was one I intentionally picked up only after reading Sharp Objects some 18 months ago. Having already seen the film adaptation, I faced the classic dilemma of whether I would still enjoy the book.
I'm happy to report that I enjoyed it tremendously nonetheless. It was a genuinely captivating read - well written and expertly paced. Given the time that had passed since watching the film, revisiting the story was a pleasure. The experience was refreshing as I got all the details filled in that the movie couldn't include. The fact that I so deeply connected the characters with Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, and Neil Patrick Harris only underscores how brilliant both versions of the story truly are.
